Fatal incident
At 4:12 a.m. on Sunday, May 3, 2026, Hanford Police responded to a 911 call from a residence in the 1500 block of University Ave. Dispatchers heard a man and woman arguing and the sound of possible gunshots in the background. Upon arrival, officers identified themselves while the dispute continued inside. Investigators determined that Vincent Diaz forced his way into the home. Once inside, Diaz shot Adrian Valdovinos, who was dating Diaz's ex-wife. Diaz then turned the weapon on himself. Officers discovered Valdovinos deceased in a bedroom.
Aftermath
The incident concluded at the scene as a murder-suicide. There are no pending criminal prosecutions against the deceased suspect. A massive candlelight vigil was held on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at Hanford Civic Park, where family, friends and members of the boxing community gathered to mourn Valdovinos. The Hanford Police Department Detective Division continues to seek any additional information regarding the events leading up to the shooting.
